Velvet Queen Sunflower (Helianthus annuus) takes 80-100 days for first blooms. Rich copper red petals are highlighted with golden yellow around a nearly black central disc. A beautiful accompaniment to the multitudes of yellow-toned sunflowers! Vibrant, 6-8″W velvety gold to orange to crimson flowers contrast a large black center on 4-5’H stalks. Velvet Queen Sunflower blooms are heaviest mid-summer. This variety looks its best when contrasted with some bright yellow sunflowers in a border or raised bed. Be sure the soil is warm at planting time, and freely draining throughout the season. Velvet Queen Sunflower is an early flowering type, so try planting at two to three week intervals instead of all at once. The bloom period will be longer this way, and the flowers are just right for cutting and bringing indoors. Excellent for cut flower arrangements. Superb size for bed, border or vegetable garden or line up along a fence or wall. Attracts pollinators and beneficial insects. Birds love the seeds! Plants should be 18″ apart after thinning. Approximately 1,130 seeds per ounce .
Each seed packet contains approximately 70 seeds. Available from SeedGro, an American brand offering only the best natural, non-GMO, open-pollinated, hybrid, and heirloom untreated seeds. Click here for other non-gmo, untreated flower seed varieties.
